In recent news……A lawsuit against a Fox Entertainment group is now expanding. The lawsuit began back in the Fall on 2011, two interns working in the "Black Swan" intership program. The two interns sued for a violation on employment laws and Fox's policy, stating since 2010, that interns with Fox Entertainment are to be payed 8 dollars an hour. Since then, two more interns have been added to the suit for the same reasons. manny employees said they are overworked and even sometimes put in charge of other non-paid interns.
This article is impacting to me because i might want to get a career in the film industry but if its that difficult to begin in the industry, i mite as well start thinking of a more promising career to study for. As a student i realize that people incharge will always be trying to pull things like that on people lower then them, i just have to know the rules to be able to protect myself. As a future film maker this article teaches me not to be careless with the people involved, if they helped or are helping me i have to be fair, everybody should get what the deserve. As a consumer i relate to they're hardships. manny questions have raised in my mind but the biggest for me is: How can we prevent this from happening again?
Great article! But did you ever think that the most rewarding thing about being an intern is the experience? If i was an intern, I wouldnt care if I got paid just as long as I had an opportunity to actually do something on the set.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to get that experience working with those heavy hitter in the business but intern or not wheres that quality.
ReplyDeleteNote: do interns paid or not do they have a union to protect each other.
i agree with both of you but money is important.
