original article

According to this article the upcoming films "Hotel Transylvania" and "Frankenweenie" have a greater purpose then just making a profit, "kids haven't really seen those Universal monster movies, basically our feeling was we get to introduce these characters to a whole new generation," said producer Michelle Murdocca. Even though most of the generation that grew up with these scary characters remember their terrifying childhoods, the newer generation isn't going to feel the same way about these characters because of how they are presented, so i personally don't think that this is the best way to intro due them because they are not scary but seem like friendly and fun creates.

This article caught my eye because i am in-between both of these generations i have seen both versions of these movies and i though it would be interesting to compare the two interpretations of these charters.  As a student this impacts me because i learn different ways of showing the same thing i see different points of view and how it impacts the new generation. As a future film maker i see that i can give my own interpretation of these characters, and as a consumer this can be a fun experience to see the old film and the new ones and see whats different. so i this i would like to ask are you interested in seeing the new versions of the film?

  1. i belive this is a great way to introduce kids to these old ghouls, i mean it reminds me of ice cube he does the same same thing by doing those family friendly movies instead of his hard rap.

  2. I agree with you Mark. I feel like they are just killing the reputations that the characters had. They were meant to be scary and they should stay that way.

  4. Unfortunately, the movies lack the scare appeal that they had back in the day. People today get there scares on jump cuts and that one annoying pot or pan that always hits the ground making a really loud crashing sound. I feel that nobody should remake these movies though. They should live up to how they were supposed to be, not presented with special effects. If you want to reintroduce these characters, replay those films for todays youth, in hope that it will strike fear in the hearts of Americans once more.

  5. If they were trying to introduce these characters to the new generation in a SCARY way then yes they completely failed. But if not I don't think it would be such a great idea, I mean Frankenweenie seems like a great movie, I want to go watch it, but Hotel Transylvania looks like one of those annoying movies that try to be funny for little kids, but they're not. I feel like that one is just a mess and is going to ruin the story behind all those characters.
